After too many trips where we forgot something important, I created this master packing list. It covers everything for a 2-5 day tent camping trip. Not everything applies to every trip, but going through the full list before packing catches the things you'd otherwise remember at 2 AM in your tent.

Personal Care
- Sunscreen (SPF 30+)
- Bug spray (DEET or picaridin based)
- Toiletries (biodegradable soap for camping)
- Towel (quick-dry microfiber)
- Prescription medications
- Hand sanitizer
- Toilet paper + trowel (for backcountry trips)
Comfort & Fun
- Camp chairs
- Hammock
- Books, cards, or games
- Bluetooth speaker
- Camera
- Binoculars
- Notebook and pen (for the analog crowd)
The most common forgotten items, based on our experience: headlamp batteries, fire starter, camp chair, and the tent rainfly. Do a final check for those four things before you close the trunk.
